Carinus Family Vineyards is a collaboration between two friends and distant relatives, Danie and Hugo Carinus. Inspired by the soil and sustained by a passion for artisanal winemaking, this union showcases the best cultivars that the South African Winelands has to offer. The fresh wines express the terroir where the vineyards are rooted and are made using a refined winemaking process to honour and celebrate the cultivars with minimal interference.

Treasuring traditions passed down through generations whilst embracing new adventures, Carinus Family Vineyards is a vino venture rooted in five generations of vineyard cultivation.

Our Vineyards

We are fortunate to farm, and cultivate our fruit, in two of the most exciting wards of the Cape winelands. Our Chenin Blanc (Rooidraai and Carinus) and Colombard in the iron-rich granitic soils of the Swartland; home to some of the finest Chenin’s in South Africa.

From iron rich granite soil. Matured in 300l old French barrels for 7 months.

Aromas of pear, grapefruit and yellow apple. The palate shows beautiful weight, balanced by a fresh, zippy acidity. A saline quality adds length to the finish.

Matured in 400l old French barrels for 9 months.

Ripe cherries and bruised mulberry on the nose. Also an inviting note of dried herbs and sweet spices. The palate shows a bright acidity and subtle, powdery tannins, which adds length to a delicately savoury finish.

From a raised bushvine vineyard planted in 2015 on finely decomposed granite. Matured in concrete diamond for 12 months and a further 4 months in stainless steel tank. Aromatics of magnolia and star jasmine. Also fresh notes of lime zest and ginger. Textural clean fruit weight balanced nicely with a refreshing acidity.

Beautiful perfume of purple flowers, red and black berries, and white pepper spice. On the palate, the fruit is bright with a grippy acidity.
Softened but crunchy tannin on the finish.

From a Swartland Vineyard planted in 1981 on iron rich granite. Matured in old 300l French oak barrels for 10 months. Exotic aromatics of mandarin, fynbos and potpourri. On the palate the fruit purity is shy at first but reveals itself beautifully after time in the glass. The acidity is sharp edged with the wine finishing long and dry.
