OUR VINEYARDS
After growing and selling their grapes to established wine producers for several years, Danie and Hugo eventually began crafting their own. Three Chenin Blanc wines are made. Two are from a 42-year-old dry-farmed vineyard outside Malmesbury, (one of the few vineyards retained by the family when they acquired the Rooidraai property in the Swartland in the 1980’s) and the other from Bluegum Grove farm in the Polkadraai Heuwels of Stellenbosch.
Our Polkadraai Heuwels Chenin Blanc and Carinus Syrah vineyards are found in the Polkadraai region of Stellenbosch; an area with a glowing – and growing – reputation for these two varieties.
The well drained granite soil on the top slopes of Devon Valley, is home to our Pinot Noir vineyard. We are very excited to welcome this new wine to our growing family!
Danie and Hugo maintain a pragmatic approach. They farm with future generations in mind, with a continuous focus on establishing new vineyard plantings. In keeping with the times and embracing sustainability, the farms have diversified over time, embracing a variety of crops and innovative farming techniques.
They also believe that the vines they plant today, will be the old vines for the next generations of Carinus vignerons and winemakers to tend to.
